As I wrote before, Morgan has been my Reiki focus since the beginning. This is a difficult thing, in the infancy stages that I am in, to know it is always working and the feedback from the one receiving Reiki is truly helpful. Tonight, Morgan was fine, rambunctious, goofy, and normal. She went to the barn with me and then back to the house for some relaxation. After awhile, Rick brought to my attention that something was wrong with her. I looked up from my iPhone (I was playing a game) and saw she was standing close to the wall, near the woodstove, staring down, nose dripping and out of sorts, truly distressed. I took her to get a drink of water and she was sulking, clearly feeling really yucky, and not herself. She did not want to go outside, did not want to drink, and held her head low. There was nothing obvious I could do so I coaxed her onto the couch next to me for observation. She was acting depressed and sick. I decided that I would give her a treatment of Reiki because it cannot hurt, and send intentional energy and thoughts of love and comfort. After several minutes, she laid down peacefully, her nose stopped running, she looked brighter, and seemed relieved. She then took a short nap with me. She is better now.
I also gave Annie more Reiki on her leg. She was having issues again, I suspect this will be a recurring theme. It is likely she will get arthritis in that leg due to the severity of the original injury. Anyhow, she loves it and sits quietly and comfortably, falls asleep, and when she has had enough looks at me and leaves in a peaceful way (not her normal manic way). She is not limping or favoring the leg anymore tonight, I guess her treatment helped too.
Reiki also helps the one giving it as you also receive. I've had a bit of a tough day and not the happiest feelings. Even I feel better and renewed....thank you Reiki.
Reiki is not a replacement for modern medicine but it certainly is a great arrow in my quiver. I am thankful to be learning this method of spiritual healing. The image above is the Reiki principles. Clearly, they are in line with my own.
The image is from an article I just read called, "The Difference Between Essential Oils and Flower Essences" written on the website, Before Its News. Please read the article as it is clear and concise and just what I needed! (Please note, I only liked the article, not the seemingly politically charged, right-winged slant on the website. I am a liberal Democrat and proud of it.)
I have been doing a great deal of soul searching and learning lately, looking at alternatives to the norm and looking to expand the mission while retaining the principles and goals of Natural Horse Lover Farm. I have been involved with natural philosophies regarding training and care for years but there is much more out there to learn and after Lola's freak accident, the Universe has awaken my senses and it is calling to me to open my mind. My only concern is that as one still living in "the lonely barn" since relocating, I'll be doing all this cool stuff by myself, well not quite, Rick and the critters are going for the ride too! LOL Breaking into the area with new-age alternative horse-related philosophies has proven to be near impossible--at least I have you all, my readers!
So,as you know, I've been delving into Reiki, healing crystals are on the list as is red-light therapy, And, from the post photo, so are essential oils and flower essences (among other things). I had an experience with the flower essences when we moved and were gearing up to transport Whiskey, Fosse, and Mini-me (a miniature horse I used to have who now lives happily with a young girl and her family) from Virginia to New York. My friend used the flower therapies and asked if she could give Whiskey flower essences. I agreed as he is a very emotionally challenged horse and knowing he faced days on the road, I thought it surely could not hurt. Not only did he load without any issues, he was perfectly fine for the trip. Keep in mind, this was December and the horses ended up stuck at a truck stop in a storm for days - not unloaded, but safe and fine in the hauler's goose neck trailer). The mini horse was fine too - he was traveling in a box-style stall with Whiskey. Fosse, not so much....he could have used the essences I think but at the time, I lacked knowledge and we all thought Whiskey would have the problem. Fosse would not load, and by the time he reached the destination was reported to have wobbly legs, be all ruffled from sweating up, and was a wreck - poor fella--and I was not there to comfort him. I did send Ulcer Guard for all of the horses as a precaution. I don't know what brand she used but it seems Bach is the leader in the flower essences industry and I plan to use their products.
I have also been exposed to essential oils from Young Living and dōTERRA. Both appear to be of high, therapeutic quality. In doing a great deal of research on the topic, I've decided that Young Living is a better fit for our farm, especially because many of my Parelli contacts (including Parelli Inc.) have been using the product for years which helps give me a strong base for information and experience. I do have however, a new friend who is a dōTERRA representative (the aromatherapist coming to the farm on December 7th). What I love about her is that she is more interested in giving information about how to use essential oils for therapy and far less concerned about which label people chose, noting that therapeutic grade is highly desired and that people have to chose the right pathway for them - she is a very enlightened person with whom I have great respect. I attended a equine essential oils webinar last night that she held and the information was excellent and not a sales pitch - very refreshing and awesome.
If you are looking into essential oils and/or flower essences, all I have to say is do your homework and follow your heart. Personally, I like the idea of using both as they seem to address very different levels of concern. Until next time...

Good Evening my wonderful readers. Today was interesting and not once, not even once, did I feel feelings of frustration or aggravation. I was never upset and never felt negative feelings at any level, never felt impacted by stress, not once and this is a surprise.
Today, my husband did not feel well, I woke up a little later than normal, my Blazer broke down on the way to work, in an intersection, I sat through a major budget meeting with my colleagues (deans and directors), led by my Sr. VP/Provost boss... and watched others get really upset, yelling, sighs of frustration, the works. I then had to deal with major issues with our integrated library system, pull together a presentation in an hour and a half for a grant proposal presentation this afternoon, etc., etc. I credit feeling more balanced to my new dedication to Reiki.
When I got home, I had to clean the barn and decided to do Reiki to each horse. Fosse my Arabian gelding, left-brained-extrovert, seemed skeptical and fearful, I used approach and retreat but ultimately decided to leave him be for now. Whiskey my half-Arabian gelding, right-brained-introvert, seemed calm and appreciative, I was unclear when we were done but needed to move on. Finally, Lola my Quarter Horse mare, left-brained-introvert/extrovert, seemed appreciative, I concentrated on her leg, she was the only one clear about when we were done.
In any event, I still don't always know if I am harnessing "the power" but, I just keep at it. Are you ready for level 2 yet? I feel like I am craving more information!

I've been working hard to bring in Reiki in my life and I think I am making progress. Each time I feel a bit more competent, confident, and comfortable. I also feel more at peace in my life, something I truly have needed and I thank you all for this.
An observation I've made is that Morgan is constantly licking my arms and legs. She has never done this with such insistence. She has always licked my face and is affectionate but this is something different. A bit hard to explain.
Several months ago my dog Annie severely hyper flexed her leg in the wrong direction and eventually the vet said is was simply a sprain. At the time I thought it was broken but radiographs proved otherwise. This was a terribly painful injury. For some reason however, it has started hurting her again and there has been swelling. Perhaps a bit of overuse and the weather although I am not certain. I doubt there is anything that can be done by the vet. I have given her a Tramadol (1/4 of a 50mg tab) which helps with pain and swelling. I also gave her Reike tonight and I think I felt the heat energy from my hands. I hope it helps. If you have the strength, perhaps you can all send her some healing energy too. Thank you.
Above is a photo of her when she originally injured her leg.

I realize that I didn't tell you all too much about my Reiki class experience yet. If you are not familiar with Reiki, it is about harnessing the Universal Life Force Energy in its purest form. You can do a great deal of research on the subject and I recommend networking with people practicing Reiki or find a Reiki Master. The attunement process was truly transformational. I walked in a skeptic, I left with more questions than I went in with, I now am a sponge for knowledge and believe.
I am trying to practice a bit each night. That said, it must be a professional hazard (remember, academic library director here) but I am inclined to feel like I need a checklist of things to do to start doing Reiki! I am still a bit lost but trying. I am always so afraid to be making a mistake or something. Morgan (my Great Dane) has been my guinea pig and seems receptive and responsive...I think! I came across this article and wanted to share. Sometimes I feel the energy flow and other times, I feel like it is gone.
Rick is funny. I asked if he'd ever let me do Reiki on him. He had an eyeball ache. He said maybe. Then I said I could do it at a distance but I would never do it without permission. He said I could do it at a distance if I wanted to. So, I called upon my guides, angels, etc. and felt a tingling in my hands- he said maybe they were falling asleep! LOL I beamed him Reike but not for long as he interrupted me asking about breakfast. He hadn't realized that I was doing it then. I walked over to him and was talking but positioned my hands to beam him in a covert way...he said I can see you hands and we both started laughing. I don 't think it did much good and he is truly not receptive but, we did have a fun moment and it was all worth it for that. He said in such a genuine way that he loved me. He is such a kind person. I told him this is a real thing and reminded him of my medical practitioner colleague at the University, Reike master and that I wasn't a kook. He responded with an, "I know and I love you."
I really feel the desire to learn more and have a level 2 class soon.

My day started out with major sleep deprivation. I had a terrible time sleeping, probably because I was afraid I would not wake up or something. Anyhow, I left at 6:30am and drove 2.5 hours to the Ottawa, Ontario, Canada region. The class was small, there were four of us and the instructor. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. When I arrived, I was about 10 minutes late, anxious, and they all felt it. They reassured me and also said they were just starting.
We spent time in the barn learning about the theory and process. The instructor was very open to question and skepticism, a lot from and by me. As a person who believes in science, I have a hard time having faith in things I cannot easily see. That said, with the experience I had with Lola, because I use energy when playing with my horses, I believe Reiki found me and I needed to be there. The attunement process and overall experience was fascinating, emotional, and something I am still processing and not ready to share fully, with anyone. We were able to perform Reiki on the host farm's horses and I saw a difference in the horse I worked with. I used my Parelli principles and the Reiki principles in a complementary manner. The horse owner remarked seeing a difference in all of the horses after the session.
For the future, I will continue to learn more and practice Reiki. The group plans to get together on a regular basis and pursue furthering our development with Reiki 2 and 3. I am also open to hosting Reiki events at my farm.
By the way, I did some Reiki on my dogs, bird, and cat tonight. Some were more receptive than others, how interesting. (Rick is supportive or my learning, or me hosting events, thinks it is weird, does not understand at all and I feel strange trying to talk about it. So, I have decided to just keep it primarily to myself as a private thing I do.)

These photos have been taken over the past few weeks. Rick has been busy expanding the big field! Our goal is to have a training pond, picnic area, dressage arena, jumping course, and obstacle course playground out there. The horses will also use it as a turnout, how exciting. Enjoy...
